Kick Off the Fun: A Guide to Soccer Themed Birthday Parties!

News

With soccer being one of the most popular sports for children in the United States, it is not unlikely that your child could ask for a soccer themed birthday party. And while party planning is never easy, throwing one does not need to be a stressful task. In this guide, we break down what you need in order to celebrate like a champion!

Find the Right Location

The first step in throwing a great party is finding the right location. For any soccer themed birthday party, the most ideal locations would be at a local outdoor field, or an indoor facility (depending on the weather that time of year). If you can not find a local outdoor field, a backyard could work as long as the yard is big enough for soccer related activities. For any soccer-themed birthday bash, sufficient space will drastically help the celebration be a memorable one, but if for some reason you are not able to find a location with enough space, keep reading on. Though some of the tips in this guide won’t be able to apply to you, there will still be some very helpful advice.

Set Up Soccer-Themed Decorations

Just like any party, the right decorations can really help set the vibe. Soccer party decorations can be found in many large retailers like Amazon and Walmart. Make sure to purchase some themed balloons, like soccer balls, fields, goals, etc. Get some green table cloths to simulate the feel of a soccer field, and grab paper decorations to scatter all over the tables. These decorations can help create an immersive experience, and will give the party a very well-planned impression.

Plan Fun Games and Activities

A soccer themed party wouldn’t be complete without games and activities. If you’re having trouble thinking of what you should play, here are a few options for you (outside of the obvious scrimmage between party attendees):

  1. A dribbling-based obstacle course where you must complete the course, while dribbling a soccer ball, while being timed. Set up cones and sticks that must be avoided or dribbled around, and you can even get creative with obstacles like dodging water balloons that the other party attendants throw at them.
  2. Depending on how many people are present, you could set up teams of two, or play solo, and play a game of “World Cup”. In this game, everyone starts on the field, and there is one goalie. The goalie will kick the ball in the air, and each team represents a country. The objective is for your team to score a goal, and shout their country name after they shoot and before they score. If they don’t say the name, or don’t score, they remain in the game. Once you score, you sit out for the round. The round keeps going until one team remains, and they are out for the game. Repeat the process again in the next rounds with the remaining teams joining in again, until there remains on victor.
  3. Set up a jersey “design center”. Buy white t-shirts and clothing markers and allow each attendant to design their own jersey. These jerseys can mimic already existing jerseys with current players, or they can be completely imagined and feature the creator's name. This is a perfect activity that isn’t physically demanding and can be fun for all ages.

Setting up fun activities, challenges, and games can help make your soccer themed birthday party a memorable one. Including small prizes for winners of challenges and games can make them even more immersive, and provide an extra motivation for everyone to be engaged.

Set Up a Soccer Themed Playlist

Whether out competing in a challenge, designing a jersey, or simply just hanging around, the right tunes can help transcend any atmosphere into an enjoyable one. Taking some time to set up a nice soccer themed playlist can really help keep everyone engaged.

When looking to create a fun soccer playlist, looking toward the previous World Cup official songs can really help set the mood. Songs like “Waka Waka” by Shakira, or “Wavin’ Flag” by K’NAAN are memorable and lots of people associate them with soccer since they were, as stated, the official World Cup songs. Don’t worry if you can’t find too many songs, you can just set the playlist on repeat and the effect will be the same.

If you don’t have a good enough speaker to play music in the venue you have selected, don’t worry! There is no need to go out and spend money on a speaker you might not use again. Instead, you can download our app to rent one from someone in your area, and use your saved money on other areas of your party! Don’t Stress!

When it comes down to it, a party is only as fun as you make it, so just make sure to do as much planning as possible, but when it’s time for the celebration make sure to join in on the fun!
